Gov AI x CMU Finale
Advancing AI for Government Services
Accessing government services can often be confusing, time-consuming, and frustrating. Gov AI has been working to change this by designing natural, intuitive AI-powered systems that make interacting with government services more accessible for everyone.
Through our Capstone partnership with Carnegie Mellon University’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute (HCII), we explored voice technology, AI-driven policy, and user-centered solutions to build a future where government services are efficient, user-friendly, and available to all citizens.
Today, we are excited to present the final results of our research, key recommendations, and a video of our Capstone team’s final presentation showcasing our work.

Key Research Insights & Recommendations
1. Improving User Experience with Voice AI
Users found trigger prompts helpful, especially when explaining complex topics like “senior benefits” or “medical expenses.”
A confirm-at-the-end approach for free-form responses reduced frustration and improved usability.
2. Enhancing AI Accessibility & Interaction
Clear signifiers on what users can say next improved engagement and efficiency.
Avoiding unnecessary repetition in voice responses helped reduce frustration.
3. Strengthening Policy & Data Privacy
AI systems should provide clear privacy safeguards when handling sensitive data.
Transparency in AI decision-making is critical for maintaining public trust.
4. Creating a More Seamless Government Benefits Experience
An integrated government benefits ecosystem can simplify enrollment across programs like SNAP, Social Security, and WIC.
AI should assist in reducing bureaucracy and paperwork, streamlining how citizens interact with government systems.
Future AI-driven solutions must be adaptable, accessible, and efficient for all users, including those with lower digital literacy.
What’s Next?
Our work with CMU marks a major step forward in the development of AI-driven government services. However, this is just the beginning. Gov AI will continue working towards:
Deploying conversational AI solutions for public benefit programs.
Engaging policymakers to create AI regulations that ensure fairness and accessibility.
Expanding our research into digital humans, emotional intelligence in AI, and multi-modal interactions.
We thank Carnegie Mellon University’s HCII Capstone team for their incredible work in shaping the future of government AI services.
